John Reed was a house carpenter, and appears to have been man of considerable property, and an extensive dealer in land. He changed his residence from Weymouth, MA to Taunton, MA (South Purchase) about 1680, and remained there until he was set off in the new town of Dighton, May 30, 1712, and died there. He and his wife, Bethia Frye, were buried in Dighton on, "Burying Hill", between upper and lower four corners.
He was in Capt. Johnson's Company in the Narragansett Swamp fight, December, 1675, King Philip's War. (Fulton-Hayden-Warner Ancestry in America)
