In April of 1703 Jonathan Marsh bought what was later known as Clarke's Ferry from Thomas Winterton of Jamestown, who operated it for three years. He and John Carr, ferrymen, were to carry all Magistrates, Deputies, and members of the General Court over said ferry.

His "Will" is dated 9 June 1704, recorded 3 July 1704,pgs 102-106. Mentions: Wife Phebe Marsh whose former husband was Oliver Arnold. Mentions household goods that were mine before I married Phebe Arnold. Sons William Marsh & Jonathan Marsh under 21. Son-in-law [stepson] Oliver Arnold. 6 daughters-in-law [step daughters] of these only Freelove Arnold is named. Wife's kinswoman Abigail Remington. Sister Sarah Palmer. Cousin Hester Palmer daughter of sister Sarah Palmer.
