Joseph Babcock (1735?-1804?), 2nd son of Ichabod & Jemima (Babcock) Babcock, had 1 child w/ 1st wife Hannah Champlin & had 10 children w/ 2nd wife, Hannah Ross.

  • parents: From http://vredenburgh.org/babcock/pages/bristolbabcock.htm Ichabod Babcock (1703-?), 2nd son of Capt John & Mary Champlin, m 1st cousin, Jemima Babcock. They were mbrs of 7th-Day Baptist Church of Westerly. Altho RI had been founded by Roger Williams on principle of religious tolerance, by 1724 Genl Assembly warned 7th-Day Baptist Church of Westerly to cease their "continual practice of doing servile labor on 1st day of wk...lest they incur further displeasure of this Assembly & put them on more rigorous method of suppressing aforementioned enormities."

Children

  • His 2nd son, John (1773-1851) moved w/ wife Damarius Crandall from Westerly to Brookfield, south of Syracuse, NY, 2 yrs aft marriage in 1794. 1831 they moved west again w/their children to Persia, Cattaraugus County, NY, near Lake Erie. John was school teacher as young man, then in later yrs was contractor & farmer. Their son George Clark (1810-?) was 7yh-Day Baptist minister who, w/wife, Almira Ruth Brown, had 3 children: Oscar, who, altho poorly educated, also became 7th-Day Baptist minister, & m Metta Bristol Delia, who m Henry Chase, who was wounded alongside fatally wounded Lawrence Bristol in Civil War; & Heman, who recd good liberal arts education m Metta's sis Retta. George Clark Babcock moved his family from Persia, NY to Rock Prairie, WI in 1845, then to Dakota, WI in 1849. Just aft Civil War his children left WI to move west, into MN, MO, & finally settling in NE in 1872. George Babcock was pastor of 7th-Day Baptist Churches in Berlin & Dakota, WI & Brookfield, MO, so he apparently moved with o?? followed his children Heman & Delia when they moved there. It is unclear whether he stayed on or went w/them later to NE.
