  • first son of Samuel and unknown first wife (second wife was Alice)
  • m. first 28 Nov 1754 Lydia Buffington
    • b. Dec. 1735, dau of Jonathan and Sarah Luther;
  • m. 2nd, 17 Nov 1763 Isabel Baker,
    • dau of Francis # 52 (Descendants of Francis Baker of Yarmouth by Bertha W. Clark, 1951, Boston) and Elizabeth Buffington.
    • She died 3 Apr 1790.
  • He died 17 Mar 1777

Will proved 29 Aug 1777 mentions wife Isabel; sons Samuel Francis, Joseph, daughters Lydia, Alice, Isabel, Elizabeth (the last 3 not yet 18).

The widow Isabel , then of Jamestown RI married 23 June 1785 Peter Aldrich of Uxbridge b. 19 Nov 1722, son of Peter and Hannah (Hayward) who had married 1st 8 Feb. 1745 Esther Comstock of Providence, R.I Peter and Isabel removed to Northbridge. Joseph Baker left 7 children. The order in which they are named in the will of their step grandmother Alice, and so is probably their order in age.

      • b. May 1761, dau of Elisha Chase and Sarah Tucker and lived at Swansea.
      • He had at 1790 census, in his household, one male over and one under 16 and three females. The names of these children are not known. We do know the name of a son b. in 1796 who moved to Woonsocket and of ONE BORN IN 1799 WHO REMAINED IN SWANSEA.
      • They were both alive as late as 3 Nov 1792 on which date they signed a deed.
  • 2. Francis ;
    • m. Sarah Salisbury b. 4 Apr. 1765,
      • dau of Daniel and Anna Hale.
      • They lived in Swansea, 1790 census giving them one male over and one under 16 and one female.
    • Francis died 26 Jan 1791.

He lived at Swansea. His will, written 9 Aug and proved 29 Aug 1777, mentions wife Isabel; sons Samuel, Francis, and Joseph; daughters Lydia, Alice, and Isabel Elizabeth—the last 3 not yet 18.

He died 17 Mar 1799; she 3 Apr. 1790. Joseph Baker left 7 children. The order in which they are named in his will agrees with the order in which they are named in the will of their grandmother Alice, and so is probably their order in age. It is not known for all which of Joseph’s wives was the mother.
