WILLARD, [Utah] April 6 .—Patriarch Joseph Smith Larkin, 76, prominent civic and church worker of Willard, was found dead in bed this morning by his son, Israel S. Larkin, with whom he had been living. The aged man retired at 11 o'clock Thursday night apparently in his usual good health, and It is thought he suffered a heart attack during the night..."

"...WILLARD [Utah], April 6  -- Patriarch Joseph Smith Larkin, aged 76 died unexpectedly this morning at the home of his son, Israel Larkin, in Willard. He had apparently been in the best of health on retiring about 11 o'clock the evening: before, and was heard stirring about his room at 2 o'clock. Death.had apparently overtaken him as he slept. He was found dead by his son. He was a brother of Patriarch George W. Larkin, who died in Ogden last June, and is survived by the -following- sons: J. J. Larkin and W. F. Larkin of Snowville; Israel S. and John H. Larkin of Willard, and a daughter, Miss Rhoda B. Larkin of Ogden. Thirty-six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. Fifty-three years ago he was- married to Harriet Chatterly, who died 11 years ago.
Mr. Lark'in was born in Chesterton, Cambridgeshire, England, December 1851 a son of Elijah and Sarah Parsey Larkin. He came to Utah with his parents in 1863. He had been an active worker in the L. D. S. church, having been. made a patriarch in.May, 1915, and having served as president of the religion class of Snowville ward, president of the elders' quorum, first counselor of the high priests quorum of Curlew stake, and various other positions of responsibility in the church, including, a mission to the central states in 1902. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Larkin & Sons..."
