Captain Joseph served in the Revolution, as did his son, Joseph, as a colonel. He was a prominent citizen of Bristol, Justice of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas and General Sessions of the Peace, and inherited his father's famous old house, Willowmere, and nearly all of his real estate.
