About Joseph Vindin Strong, MBE

Lived at "Broomfield", 62 Bower Street, Manly, a turn of the century two storey house with breathtaking views north up the coast beyond Palm Beach and overlooking Cabbage Tree Bay and Shelley Beach (the only inland facing ocean beach on the east coast of Australia). It is a popular surfing spot off the headland. There was no garage on the propery, so Granpa Joe used on cut into the rock opposite in which he parked his cream Dodge, HE-999, which he nicknamed 'Beelzebub' and I can remember him dring me around Manly Golf Club faiways when he was Captain of the Club. He was also a founder of Manly Surf Club (not SLSC) which still exists. He swam in the surf daily for many years.
