Josephine M. Flesness, 89, West Fargo, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, in ManorCare Health Services, Fargo.

Josephine Poehls was born Aug. 20, 1912, in Sabin, Minn., where she attended school. As a child, she moved with her family to Page, N.D. She married Christian Flesness Jan. 9, 1932, in Page, where they lived. In 1955, they moved to Forman, N.D., where they owned and operated a restaurant. They lived in Lisbon, N.D., for a short time before moving to Fargo in 1960. She worked as a chef for Sunset Lanes, Moorhead, The Bowler, Fargo, and Fargo Eagles Club. He died in 1974. She then retired.

What this doesn't say about my grandmother is what a wonderful cook she was. I remember her being at my house when I was a child and coming home to the smell of baking bread and rolls. Every Christmas it was cookies and bars. She baked all the Norwegian cookies for my grandfather also. If you visited her you were fed and fed well.
