Commanded the fishing vessel "Specie." Is said to have been taken prisoner by the English during the War of 1812.

In 1850 Josiah was a ships' carpenter. In 1860 at the age of 74 he was a Master Mariner.

Josiah was "Stabbed May 19 by one of the crew Ship Ocean Traveller at Havana."

He died 11 Aug 1861 in Belfast, Me.
