Two years later, Vigil sold the grant to Juan González who built a chapel and large corrals, some of which were in the area across the river that became known as Corrales. Soon other settlers followed, mostly from Alburquerque.

• Dates & Events:

Juan must have found his wife outside New México proper since Zaldívar Jorge is an unusual name, or she could have reached back some generations to an ancestral name, as sometimes happened in this century.

A young woman named Inez lived with her grandother, Apolonia Varela, in Santa Fe. She had a brother named Juan, who was a silversmith. These two were, in all likelihood, the children of Juan Gonzáles Bernal II. ~Origins of New Mexico Families, pgs. 189 & 360
