About Juan de Archuleta

Juan de Archuleta came back to New Mexico with Diego de Vargas in 1693. Many of the eldest sons came back to New México to retain the lands of their fathers. This Juan de Archuleta was very likely the son of Juan de Archuleta the second and María Luján. His wife was Isabel Gonzáles. In 1690, El Paso del Norte, both were witnesses for a marriage. Juan had a sister, Antonia de Archuleta, who married Miguel de Herrera.

In the Indian uprising of 4 Jun 1696, Juan went to rescue Fray Blas Navarro at San Juan Pueblo. He also carried out orders for Vargas regarding the protection of the people at Bernallilo and the loyal Indians at Zia Pueblo. In 1698 and 1699 he received grants of land in Santa Fé and another at San Juan from Governor Cubero, and in 1697 and 1698, he purchases lands in Santa Cruz. He was dead by 1703, when his widow acquired more Santa Cruz property.
