Mr Karl Johan Salander, 24, was born 27 July 1887 the son of widow Kerstin Salander of 3, Daggarp, Genevad, Tjärby, Halland, Sweden. He was gardening student on Stjärnarp and had studied to become a gardener in England and Germany.
Karl was on his way from Tjärby to his brother Ernest (Ernst) Gustaf Salander 1906 West Main St. Red Wing, Minnesota. He was going to settle in the USA. Karl Johan traveled via Malmö, Sweden and boarded the Titanic at Southampton as a third class passenger .
Salander died in the sinking, his body, if recovered, was never identified.
The Mansion House Fund paid 874.08 Kr (£48) to his mother. 1366.50 Kr (£75) damage claims were paid to mother 29 May 1914. After his death Kerstin had asked for aid from the fund but the "Halland County Sheriff" wrote to ministry for foreign affairs that she wasn't in need of any help. Even so £48 was paid via the vicar.
