About John Keith Sutton

Keith was an only child and was educated, firstly at Berkhamstead School in England, then Queens College, Queenstown, University College, London and finally studied briefly for Law at UCT. He served in the SANF and Royal Navy in World War II from 1943 to 1946. After the war he managed a big agency business for Halsted & Co in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia). In 1950 he entered journalism and became a journalist on The Chronicle, Bulawayo and Salisbury (Harare). In 1952 he was transferred to the Cape Argus and 10 years later joined the Cape Times and in 1962 the EP Herald in Port Elizabeth. In 1947 he married Fay Valerie Haydn-Allen in 1947 and they had five children. They were divorced in 1963 and he subsequently married Peggy Joan Anderson and they had one daughter. He died after a short illness in 1996.
