About Keranhappuch Nelson

Note: A transcription of the Orphans Court Record of Limestone County, Alabama, variously spells her name as KerenHappuch and as Karenhappuch. Family stories hold that Keranhappuch's last name was Nelson and that she was a sister to Thomas Nelson, a Signer of the Declaration of Independence. The appearance of the name Nelson in her son John Nelson Biard's name gives some credence to that having been her maiden name; however, no documentary evidence has as yet been discovered to prove or to refute this. A variation of this family legend as reported by Doris McCarty Fugler holds that John Nelson Biard's [maternal?] grandfather was Thomas Nelson.

Waller (good enough proof to me about Aaron Waller), it mentions Thomas Morrison (good enough proof to me), William Blair, Henry Beard, William Gwinn (the unknown Gwinn), Welcome Beard, John Beard, George Beard, Archibald Beard, and probably some of the others we didn't know about like C. Humphrey, William Boswell, Nelson McDowell, etc....I'll transcribe them word for word later this week but here's a preview....

The will records are from Dallas Co. AL She is also referred to as Happy Beard It mentions no husband. Her administrator was a man named Person Davis The records seem to be dated 1822-1829 regarding her estate, it lists her property & who bought it (mostly Person Davis, some were bought by William Gwinn, some to Henry Beard, one thing to David McCord and one to Saml Parsons. Then her money seems to be divided out (or the first eight are listed as ? something, it looks like asprvoucher) to No. 1 A. Waller 11.84 No. 2 William Blair 11.84 No. 3 C. Humphrey 57.50 No. 4 Henry Beard 11.84 No. 5 William Gwinn 11.84 No. 6 Welcome Beard 11.84 No. 7 Thomas Morrison 11.84 No. 8 William Boswell 6.00 then it lists "share of estate" to P. Davis 11.84 Archibald Beard 11.84 John Beard 11.84 George Beard 11.84 Nelson McDowell 11.84 charges for trouble expense 19.85 3/4 Total 225.43 3/4 then advertising 3.50, judge & clerk fees 4.75 Also Henry Beard is in Baldwin County as a member of the Alabama State Militia in Beat No. 3, signed 6/17/1820 Also Henry Beard in 36th Regt. Wilcox, Ensign 10/8/1825 These two Henry Beard listings are probably her son and not her husband, I'm guessing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Followup e-mail from Jan Elaine Biard Thomas on 22 June 2000:

I did a little quick looking around on the internet last night, and it seems that Person Davis (listed in the probate records) has a daughter named Kerenhappuch Davis. Imagine that. Kerenhappuch Davis married a man named James Madison Sorelle. The web page is http://ccwf.cc.utexas.edu/~bans/gete/D0008/1752.html This web page doesn't show Person Davis's wifes name or his parents name, but I am going to try to contact the owner of the web page and see where their info came from. I also ran the new names through the LDS site, FTM, and yahoo and altavista, but I didn't come up with anything. William is such a common first name, and believe it or not, their are quite a few men named Nelson McDowell. But, I feel very certain that those other names are the spouses of our unknown girls. I believe their were 13 names who received a share of the estate. There is one puzzling thing...somebody had added two more boys names (Robert and Richard) to the list of Henry's children in Mauds book. Those two boys are not in the will records. Maybe they were Henry No. 2's brothers and not his sons, or they were already dead. Does anybody know why Maud added those names? It wouldn't be too far fetched to think that they might already be dead, it seems a little odd that none of Kerrenhappuch Beards children predeceased her during approximately 70 years, if there were 13.
