___________

Built in 1717 by George Denison ( grandson of Captain George and Lady Ann ) for his bride Lucy Gallup, the Denison Homestead Museum is located on 200 acres of meadows and woodlands. This land, located in the Town of Stonington, Connecticut, east of the Mystic River, was originally granted to Captain George Denison in 1654 by John Winthrop, Jr. The Homestead sits on a sunny, rocky knoll facing south to catch the sun in the winter and the prevailing breezes in the summer. Six generations ( father to son ) of Denisons lived in the homestead from 1717 to 1941. The last direct descendant to reside in the Homestead, Ann Borodell Denison Gates, having no living children, willed the Homestead and its lands to the Denison Society which she had established in 1930 with instructions to preserve and protect them for future generations. In order to protect the land south east of the Homestead the Society established the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center.
