About Lafayette Lucifer Salter

Lafayette Salter also went by the name of Lafe. He was born on February 15, 1893 at Fallsburg, Lawrence County, Kentucky, and lived in Louisa, Lawrence, Kentucky. He was the son of Thomas Van Salter and Sarah Jane Salmons. He married Bertha Knipper Barber on 12 October 1920. She died in childbirth on Feb. 6, 1924. Lafayette Salter married Florence Louise Boyle on 14 February 1925. He died in November 1963, at age 70, at the.Veterans Adm. Medical Center, Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio USA

Lafayette Salter was reported as "Missing from his home" on November 9, 1903. It is not clear if he ran away or was lost. This happened not long after the family moved from Lawrence County, Kentucky to Ohio.

Lafayette enlisted in the infantry on January 26, 1918, in World War I, and received an honorable discharge September 2, 1919. He served at Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and Muese-Argonne, all in France (Serial number 1939667).
