About Laurence Haffenden

In 1454 Laurence was taxed 16d for goods in the hundred of Barclay.

Known in 1483 & 1484 to be a Bailiff of Bugglesden and given exemption for life from civil duties.

Extracted from "Tenterden - The First Thousand Years". Also "Old Tenterden" by J. Ellis Mace: Through bequeathment of land, Laurence is believed to be the father of Thomas Haffenden. Known as Sir Laurence Haffenden of Hughenden Bugglesden. His name also arises in various books on Tenterden history as being the ancestor of Alfred Haffenden who lived at Homewood House. Alfred was a direct descendant of Richard, the youngest son of Robert Haffenden and brother to John Haffenden.
