Knut Lennart Mogren was born March 12, 1870 on a farm called Alegarden in the parish of Eggby, County of Skaraborg, Sweden. This county is in the southwest part of Sweden near the city of Goteberg, not Stokholm. Apparently he went by his middle name as many of his relatives did. Lennart first emmigrated to the United States on May 8, 1888 and worked for a while in a furniture factory in Grand Rapids, Michigan. However, he was living and working in Brooklyn, New York, where he met Charlotte Alida Anderson and they were married December 7, 1895 in Brooklyn. He was employed by the National Casket Company in Oneida, New York. Lennart returned to Sweden to visit family. He then emmigrated back to the U.S. a second time on May 2, 1897, sailing out of Goteberg, Sweden with his brother Eric. They lived and worked in Brooklyn until 1910 when Lennart moved his family(Charlotte and five children) to Oneida, New York and was made supervisor of the Wood Carving Department for the National Casket Company in Oneida. Eric also went with them to Oneida. Lennart was quite an artist and designed the casket President William McKinley was buried in. Lennart and Charlotte bought a home in Canastota, New York in 1919, however Lennart developed pernicious anemia and they returned to Oneida in 1920. Lennart died of pernicious anemia on December 11, 1922 in Oneida, New York.
Lennart Mogren, 52, of Oneida, New York, passed away yesterday, December 11, 1922 at the comforts of his home with his wife and family beside him. He was born March 12, 1870 in Sweden to Petter and Marta Reuter Mogren. He emmigrated to the U.S. and arrived May 8, 1888. On December 7, 1895, he married Charlotte Alida Anderson. They had seven children. He worked at the National Casket Company in Oneida from 1894-1919, when he was forced to retire because of pernicious amenia, which he died from. He was head supervisor of the Wood Carving Department, the same department his younger brother Eric worked in. He was also known as Knut. Lennart was predeasced by his parents, a daughter, Norma Virginia, earlier this year; a brother, Willy Ingierd; six uncles and three aunts; a cousin, Axel Mauritz Mogren last year. He is survived by his wife of 27 years Charlotte Mogren of Oneida; three sons: Gerald L. and his wife Bessie of Oneida; Roy A. of Philadelphia and Jack B. of Oneida; three daughters: Olga Hoyland and her husband John of Clark Mills, N.Y., Edith F. Mogren and Lillian C. Mogren, both of Oneida, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Helen Mogren, of Oneida; five brothers: Olof T.(Hulda), Per B.(Tekla), Adolf G.(Signe), Sven G., all of Sweden and Eric(Rosa) of Oneida, N.Y.; a sister, Edith of Sweden; many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
