About Leonard Norris Spears

Len owned a 65 foot schooner named the 'Swordfish' with a business partner. They used to take people deep-sea fishing off the east coast of Florida, between the Florida Keys and the Bahamas and Cuba. During prohibition they were allowed to carry 2 gallons of Whisky for "Medicinal purposes"

Once when the partner took the Swordfish out alone,, he came back claiming that she had sunk in a hurricane. Len questioned his explanation until he finally confessed that he had been running guns to the Cuban rebels and General Bautista. The Cuban navy sunk the Swordfish, and that was the end of a dream for Len.
