Leonarda Escolar Limjap studied painting under Fabian de la Rosa and piano under Dona Ventura Galvez. The daughter of an affluent businessman, she was convent-educated and well-traveled. In 1908, she refused the first Manila Carnival Queen to be able to continue her travels. In 1919, she co-wrote a column "The Housekeeper" for the Women's Journal, together with Paz Legaspi Bautista.
