About Letitia Floyd

 Letitia Floyd  ,and  Gov John Floyds ,oldest daughter Letitia Floyd Lewis, she passed in feb,16 1886 she was the wife of william lynn, Lewis. He was the son of Mary Preston Lewis and John Lewis owners of the Resort and Land were they are  layed to rest.  If you look up the recovery of Letita Preston Floyds Grave you will also find the story of a Harry E Winter o.M.I. He wrote. When Alexis de Tocqueville was finishing democracy in America about 1835 he asked what was the chief cause of the extraordinary prosperity and growing power of this nation and he wrote succinctly The Superiority of there women. Mr Winter also states Recently The Diocese of wheeling-charleston which covers the entire state of WV decided to honor one of these women The Author and Educator Letitia Preston Floyd 1779-1852 she was to the manor horn with her brother James patton Preston serving as the Gov of VA 1816-19 her husband John Floyd jr 1830-34 and son John B Floyd 1848-52. And Mr winters story goes on and tells a lot so please look up the the story on. Under the recovery of Letita Preston Floyds Grave and read there you will also find out that in the 90s they did re-discover Her and Gov John Floyds Graves along with many more and gave them realy nice Grave Stones that I've photo D and put pics of on find a I must say the cemetery has changed hands and is gated and locked too all I hope the new owner will give a way too visit the local say its in great despire since the finding of all the unmarked graves. But they did say he plans on redoing the whole Place  over, so with that said we only can hope so and everywere you read other than here will state nothing of the re discovery of the graves at the Lewis family cemetery.  Hope all family will pay there respects to her and Gov Floyd soon as made posible again and enjoy your family history. Mamaw Lettita was the Daughter of Col . William Preston a leader in the  Revolutionary war,  he Signed Possibly  wrote  the Fincasial Resolution, Predisecor of the Declaration of Independent s. Please help me along with the Knights of Columbus,  Fraternity of Catholic Men,  that i must give credit to here keep the cemetery up and in good shape. This organization has done more along with Father Harry Winter, in keeping  the Cemetery up alot more than any others including us Family. So i wana thank these kind men, for everything they are doing for my loved ones.  If any one connected to the Smithfield Museum,  at VA Tech.
