The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) Lewis S. Wisner, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 12 May 1864, while serving with Company K, 124th New York Infantry, in action at Spotsylvania, Virginia, while serving as an engineer officer voluntarily exposed himself to the enemy's fire.
