Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, United States

Jan 25, 1923 Dear Myrtle: Harry just received a letter from Mollie in which she told us the sad news of Lillie’s death. It hardly seems possible as Lillie was feeling fine and enjoying life when we were over visiting, New Years. We haven’t heard of her having any trouble since then so I suppose it was a very sudden illness. Myrtle, I guess it was god’s will and as long as he took her away from this world he’ll surely take good care of her in the next. We must all go when the time comes but it seems that the best and most dearest go first. Just make the best of it Myrtle as you know when they finally leave this world they can’ not be brought back. This certainly seems like a cruel world but they say that everything happens for the best. Harry is going to Portland Sunday and he says hell try to see you. You probably know that Mollie will become a mother within the next two or three days. I may be down to Portland Sunday and if so will see you then. Just take care of yourself now Myrtle and don’t worry too much. Harry and I both wish to express our sympathy and hope there will be no news of this kind in our families for years to come. Hoping that Max and yourself and kiddies are in best of health I remain, as ever [(signed)] Julius
