As a great fan of the collaborative approach of Geni, I am especially adding Steyns and Viljoens to the Geni Big Tree. Wow, that has been truly worthwhile! So many new contacts, discovering family members that I never knew about and getting to know more about history looking through family-coloured spectacles. These days I am trying to use the guidelines for Geni profiles [http://www.geni.com/projects/South-African-Genealogical-Reference-Centre/7572 and gradually correcting the mistakes I made in the early days :-).. Best source for the Viljoens: Viljoen Familieregister Deel 1-4 by HC Viljoen published 2012. The three best general sources for the Steyns:

1. South African Genealogies (SAG) vol. 12 published 2005. As far as I can see, all profiles have been added now, Nov 2012. Discovered a number of mistakes in SAG which I passed on to them. Thanks to everybody who has collaborated.

2. Die families van Ou Swellendam Deel 1 Steyn published 1999; by M. van Hemert. Available from the Drostdy Museum, Swellendam. All of them have been entered on Geni now - Dec 2010. Thank you to everybody who has collaborated.

3. Die Nasate van AFW Steyn en EM Linde published 2009; by J.W. Jonker. Note: the numbering system used in this book does not always follow the standard approach so it could cause some misunderstanding. Available from the Drostdy Museum, Swellendam. All the Steyns from this book have been entered on Geni now Jan 2011. Thank you to everybody who has collaborated.
