Laurent "Lorenzo" Stampfler (15 Aug 1825 - 11 Feb 1890) was born in Alsace-Lorraine, immigrated to the United States with or soon after his brother. He enlisted in Co M, Second Michigan Calvary in 1861(needs verification). He was killed when the wagon he was driving went out of control. The newspaper story states "his brains were dashed about the roadway".
