Obituary Monroe Commercial Thursday Jan 4 1866: "DIED at his residence in Erie, Monroe Co, on the 28th of December 1865, Joseph Dusseau in his 86th year. Mr D. was a highly respectable citizen. He lost 2 sons during the recent rebellion, while prisoners, and he was a soldier in War of 1812, and carried in his body to the grave, three bullets received in the service of his country." Joseph Dusseau was the son of Jean Francois Dussault and Marie Jeanne Raoul. He served in the War of 1812 as a Lieutenant in the 2nd(Otter Creek) Company formerly Thibeau's Co under the command of Colonel John Anderson and Lt Col Francois Navarre as part of the 2nd Michigan Regiment. Pension records detail some of his engagements as a spy and ranger for General Harrison as well as noting his injuries during the battle at Fort Meigs. His sons who died during the Civil War were Oliver b 1820 and David b 1839.
