Lysdander Gee, son of Salmon Gee and Sarah Watson Crane, was born in Austinburg, Ashtabula, Ohio on 1 September 1818 and died in Tooele, Utah, June 27, 1894. He came to Utah in 1849 with the George A. Smith Company, had three plural wives, and 22 children.

Biographical Sketch

The third of ten children of Salmon Gee (1792 - 1845) and Sarah Watson Crane (1795 - 1849), Lysander Gee was born 1 September 1818 in Austinburg, Ashtabula County, Ohio. He was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1832 at the age of 14. He married Amanda M. Sagers (1821 New York - 22 October 1848, St. Louis, Missouri) on 5 September 1838, at Far West, Caldwell County, Missouri. On 6 April 1840, at a general conference in Nauvoo, he was ordained an Elder by Elders William Smith and John E. Page, two of the Twelve Apostles. Elder Gee did considerable missionary work and was on a mission to Iowa when the Prophet Joseph and his brother Hyrum were assassinated. In 1845 at Nauvoo Lysander Gee was set apart as one of the Presidents of the 31st quorum of Seventies by President Joseph Young. He married Theresa Bowley on 12 February 1846 at Nauvoo, Illinois, daughter of John Bowley and Polly Reed of Maine. She was born 7 October 1829 at Carthage, Maine.

Brother Gee came to Utah in 1849, sharing in the trials and hardships incident to the lives of the pioneer Saints. He lived six years in Salt Lake City and afterward removed to Tooele City, where he continued to reside until his death. He married Maryetta Rowe on 10 February 1850, in Salt Lake City. She was born 3 October 1831 in Tompkins County, New York.

Following his move to Tooele from Salt Lake City, he became the second postmaster in the town of Tooele City, Utah, appointed to this office 8 July 1856. Gee worked as a Prosecuting Attorney, Justice of the Peace and a carpenter. On 2 April 1894 he was ordained a High Priest. He served as the Superintendent of Sunday School in the Tooele Stake of Zion for many years, and he was was a patron of Tooele City's theatrical group. Lysander Gee died at his home in Tooele, Tooele County, Utah Territory on 27 June 1894.
