OBITUARIES

OWENS, Maicie A. - Services will be held Thursday, May 29 at 10 a.m. at the Valley baptist church, 800 Airport Dr. for Maicie Azel Owens, 78, who passed away May 27 in Bakersfield. Roger Spradlin of the Valley Baptist Church will officiate.

Maicie Owens was born in Arkansas and moved to Oklahoma when she was one year old. She lived in Oklahoma until 1919 when she and her family moved to Texas. Maicie married Alvis Edgar Owens in Texas on January 9, 1926 and they had four children, Mary, Buck, Melvin, and Dorothy. Maicie and family moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1937 and lived there until 1951 when she moved to Bakersfield where she has resided since.

Maicie's son Melvin died in Bakersfield in 1971.
Her husband Alvis Preceded her in death in August 1976.

Maicie taught Sunday School for over 40 years and is a member of the Valley Baptist Church in Oildale.

She is survived by her son, Buck Owens of Bakersfield; daughters Dorothy Owens of Bakersfield and Mary McKinney of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Juanita Agee of Tempe, Arizona, Raejean Moon, Keith McKinney of Mesa, Arizona, Michael Owens of Scottsdale, Arizona, Buddy Owens, Mel Owens Jr., Larry Owens, Sandra Petty, John Owens, and Kim Holley, all of Bakersfield; twenty great grandchildren; sister Edith Jordan of Boron; brothers Vernon Ellington of Santa Maria and Hoyt Ellington of Fresno.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hillcrest Mortuary, Funeral Directors.
