Major William S. Grady, a Confederate officer, who surrendered his life at Petersburg, Virginia. Major Grady, at one time owned the gas works at Athens, Georgia.
He was the father of Henry Woodfin Grady (May 24, 1850 – December 23, 1889) who was a journalist and orator who helped reintegrate the states of the former Confederacy into the Union after the American Civil War.
