About Malachi Joiner

Malachi Joiner enlisted in 1862. His unit was tje 12th GA Batallion Light Artillery Company E. He was wounded in the hip in the battle of Monocacy and captured on July 10th, and died on July 19th in Virginia

Washington, County) In the name of God Amen,

         I Malachi Joiner of the State and County aforesaid, being about to 

leave home for the Confederate Service and knowing the uncertainty of life,

deem it right and proper that I should make a disposition of the property with

which a kind Providence has helped me, do therefore make this my Last Will and

Testament, hereby revoking all others heretofore made by me.

Item 1) I desire that all my just debts be paid without delay by my Executors

herein after appointed.

Item 2) I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Ann S. Joiner and my five

children, Mary Frances, William B., Marion, Andrew and Claudius Joiner to be

kept together for the joint use and benefit of my said wife and children until

the youngest child arrives at the age of twenty one years, the following

property to wit, the plantation on which I now reside containing two hundred

acres more or less, adjoining lands of William Tayler and William T. Collins,

four head of horses, eight head of cattle, forty six head of hogs, the

provisions and crops on my land. Household and kitchen furniture and plantation

tools, and I desire and direct that upon the arrival of my son Claudius at the

age twenty one years that all the aforesaid property and its increase be sold

by my Executors and the proceeds arising from said sale be equally divided

between my aforesaid wife and children or the survivors of them, share and

share alike.

Item 3) I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Ann S. and my son

William B. Joiner Executrix and Executor of this my Last Will and Testament

this August 4th 1863 under the advisement of my friends Lucius Dudley and John

Bell.

Signed, sealed, declared and published by Malachi Joiner as his Last Will and

Testament in the presence of us the subscribers who subscribed our names

hereto, in the presence of said testator at his special instance and request

and of each other, this August 4th 1863.

Additional Comments:

Malachi Joiner Jr. was the son of Malachi and Rachel Joiner. He was born 1825

in Washington County and married Ann S. Took 21 Oct. 1847. He enlisted Co. E

12th Ga. was wounded in the battle of Monocacy, died from his wounds 19 July

1864. Buried Mt. Olivet cemetery in Frederick City, MD.
