Maranzie was the daughter of Silas and Julia Lowry Deese.

The following was taken from the Jul. 15, 1940 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:

A large crowd attended funeral rites for Maranza Deese, 64, Indian woman of the Harper's Ferry section near Pembroke, who died Saturday night at her home. The services were conducted yesterday at Harpers Ferry church by Rev. Tommie Swett, and burial was made in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Lacy Jacobs, Willoughby Jones, Oscar Locklear, Franklin Dial, Crade Sampson, Wily Jones. Flower bearers were: Irene Hunt, Sarah Dial, May Belle Oxendine, Beril Brooks, Stella Jacobs, Arney Ivery, Lize Jane Dial.

  • **NOTE: Her daughter Julia's husband, Horace G. Jacobs, is also buried at Harpers Ferry.
