Upon graduation, she enlisted in the Waves and served during World War II as a control tower operator at the naval air station in Clinton, Okla. In 1959, she began her organ studies at the University of Oregon-Eugene, where she earned an MA degree in organ performance in 1961. Anderson Brakel, 85, of West Chester, a World War II veteran, teacher, organist, and chess enthusiast, died July 17 at Reading Hospital and Medical Center of complications from a fall. A native of Marshall, Minn., Mrs. Brakel earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. During World War II, she served in the Navy as an air control tower operator. She was assigned to a naval air station in Clinton, Okla., where she met her future husband, Robert L. Brakel.
