On Hammonds (farm), rigid economy was the order of the day, and when, on 30th June 1868, the 21 year old Margret - or Margie as she was always known- married Daniel James Roberts, a farmer of the Graaff Reinet district, the ceremony could not have been more simple. The ceremony took place at Hammonds, the bride's twin and her brother, Mary Ann and Robert, being witnesses, while the only guests were the groom's father, Dan Roberts, his sister and brother-in-law, Lydia and John Mackay, and Shepperson.
