About Maria W. r. Thompson

DAVEISS, Mrs. Maria (THOMPSON), author, born in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, 31 October 1814. Her e arly education was received in the schools of Harrodsburg. In 1839 she married William Daveis s. Her poem in compliment to a bride was extensively copied, and was followed by "The Nun " a nd "A Harvest Hymn." " Roger Sherman, A Tale of '76," and "Woman's Love," are her best-know n stories. She received from the Kentucky state agricultural society a premium for an essay o n the " Cultivation and Uses of the Chinese Sugar-Cane," which she introduced into the state . She has been an extensive contributor to agricultural papers, and has published a "Histor y of Mercer and Boyle Counties, Ky." (1886).V0L. II.--6
