Maria da Costa Assunção was born 24 Sept 17417 in Colonia do Sacramento, daughter of Agostinho de Deus (born in Ponta Garça, São Miguel Island, Azores) and Eugenia Maria dos Santos (born in Colonia, parents from Portugal - Oeiras and Almada).

The church books for Colonia do Sacramento are kept in Rio de Janeiro but are in a pitiful state and no consultation is allowed. A friend of mine copied them back in 1976 and is planning to publish them in a book form soon.

Maria da Costa Assunção married Paulo Lopes Falcão in Desterro (now Florianópolis, SC, Brazil) sometime in 1764 but they could have met earlier in Colonia.
