In 1666 she was living in New Amsterdam.

The Sohier family originated from Cambray and bore ïngules a fine pointed star, argent". In the 16th and 17th centuries, a branch of this family had memberships in the French Reformed Church in London, England.

Marie apparently died of small pox in 1677 and was the first person buried in the Old French Burying Ground at New Milford, Bergen County, NJ, the site of the French Church of Kinderkamack which existed about 1682-1696.

The marriage record follows: "1643. 4 Juillet, Assisté de Jean desMarets et Francois Sohier, Marguerite deHerville et Marguerite Sohier; David desMarets, fils de Jean, natif de Beauchamps et Marie Sohier, fille de Francois, natif de Nieppe, et le 19 Juillet. Marié le 29 Julliet." These dates show first banns Jul4, second bans July 19, marriage July 29, 1643.

Jean was a constable in 1670; lieutenant of militia, Bergen County, East Jersey, 1683; member of Council and Com. of Safety of New York, 1689; settled at Nova Caesarea, New Barbadoes (now Hackensack) NJ. He patented lands in NY and NJ. His first home in New Jersey was on the original patent. Later he inherited the house built by his father David on the west side of the Hackensack River and the Little Mill. Jean joined the Hackensack Reformed Dutch Church July 10, 1696, his second wife, Marretie Slot, already being a member. Will dated 29 Mar 1714, probated 10 Nov 1719 and is filed at Trenton - Executors were son Peter and Abraham Brower.
