AEGIDIUS MARKUS (S in CJ 893: 86). - Flensburg. * 22.9.1745, son of Johann Detlef A. and Elsabe Maria Marcus (W. Schmidt, p. l79). Arr. as third mate on “Het Huys ter Meye,” b. 1776. He had a school and complained in 1795 that his duties of corporal of the militia often prevented him from attending to it. (Res. of the Cape Church Council of 6.7.1795.) In 1803 finding himself in financial difficulties he applied for a position as “Baas”" on one of the Company's posts, and was put on the list of “Sollicitanten”.
