Mary Royall, born in Scotland?[967]; died Bef. 20 May 1749 in probably Nottingham, Chester Co., PA[968].

The following is quoted from page 50 of "Nicholson Family History" (1970) by Caroline Nicholson Jacob (1891-1991) of Round Top, Chester County, Pennsylvania:

Jeremiah Brown, father of Patience, married a Mary Royal or Royle who had a romantic rather than a distinguished background. According to the story she told her children she had been kidnapped in Scotland when she was only a girl in her early teens and had been taken as an indentured servant to America where she served out her term in the household of Caleb Pusey in Chichester in a house that has been recently restored as a museum piece.

She married as soon as her term of service was over; her husband [William Coles] died and she married Jeremiah Brown and thus became the mother of Patience and the great-grandmother of Rhoda Holaday who walked by the covered wagon over the mountains to Indiana.
