  1. A Genealogy of the Descendants of Thomas Carter By: Howard Willston Carter This book contains the history and genealogy of the Thomas Carter family of Massachusetts.  Published by the author. Connecticut. 1909. page 17. George Parkhurst had 9 children of his 1st wife, Phebe, baptized in Ipswich, England, including Mary on on Aug. 28, 1614.

Savage, in Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, p. 341, speculates that Thomas Carter's wife, Mary, may have been the daughter of Philemon Dalton. He infers this from the will of Ruth Dalton, the wife of Timothy Dalton who was the brother of Philemon. In her will, Ruth (having no children) remembers Mary Carter with the children of Philemon Dalton. (N.B. This was subsequently disproven).
