As my father was still a child and learning Tamil in his school at Jaffna, he wrote Ummama (Mami) a letter in Tamil. When it reached her in Thissur, she couldn't read it since it was in Tamil. So she attended classes to learn how to read and write and then replied to the letter in Tamil.
The one person I REALLY regret never meeting. She passed away soon after I was born. But she left me a beautiful chain to remember her by.
