Mary "Polly' Peyton (C-Line #97) was a daughter of Henry Peyton (C-Line #37) and Elizabeth (PAIN) Peyton. Mary was born in either Rockbridge or Amherst County, VA and she moved with her parents before 1813 to Cabell Co, VA (WV). The family settled on this land, where the cemetery now sits, with a land grant of Henry Peyton, our Revolutionary Patriot.
Some time around 1812/1814 Mary "Polly' Peyton married her cousin Henry Payton (C-Line #103) He was the son of William Payton C-Line #38 and Nancy Howard Payton.
The fact that a daughter of Henry Peyton the Revolutionary married a Henry Payton has always created some confusion in our genealogy research. That is why I have included the Peyton of Virginia Society designaton numbers for each of these Payton/Peyton individuals....one other note....all of these family members had their surnames spelled as Payton and Peyton at some point in their lives...Carrie Bias Hoffert* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Aug 21 2022, 17:56:56 UTC
