About Mary Sinclair (Scammon)

Mary Scammon who married the son of John Sinclair, was a descendant of both the Waldrons and the Scammons, some of the very earliest settlers ofNew Hampshire. Both the Waldrons and the Scammons emigrated from Alcester, Warwickshire, England.

She was the youngest child and from her parents she received all the "salt medde" between Quoboag road and Moore's creek. P 72 The History of the Sinclair Family in Europe and American for Eleven Hundred Years. By Leonard Allison Morrison.

James and Mary Scammon Sinkler deeded their land to their son Richard (born about 1705) 40 acres in 1727. This was three miles from Exeter, near the Squamscott river in the westerly part of Stratham N.H. Their home was on the westerly end of Quoboag road, on what is known today as the Sinclair Place. It remained in possession of the family for several generations. The Sinkler Path, can still be traced and dates back to about 1725. It was long before used before the Quoboag road was opened which gave the Sinklers connection with the main thoroughfare and was no longer needed. It's crooked track is still seen in the woods. It led across the present farm of Col. Richard Scammon, and connected the early homes of the Sinklers and Scammons who were related.
