About Mary Allin

Mary Allin (Snap) (c1468-1545).

She was apparently wife of Thomas Allin not George Alleyne. Note, however, that Richard Alleyne, a great grandson of George Alleyne, was vicar at Skillington, where this Mary Snap is said to have been born. Also note that this Mary is said to have been daughter of Margaret Wisdom(e), while Richard the vicar married another Margaret Wisdom(e), apparently from the same family.

Secondary sources uniformly say she was a daughter of Robert Snap, of Skillington and his wife Margaret Wisdom(e), but do not cite a primary source.

Her husband was from Northamptonshire, as described in his grant of arms, which is preserved at the Peterborough Museum. Skillington is 35 miles from Peterborough. It seems possible, perhaps even likely, that she was a close relative of Edmund Snape (c1565-1608), a famous Puritan preacher who was Minister of St. Peter's, Northampton, c. 1586.
