Mathurin Gastineau [Budd, Ancestors of George (Sr.) Gastineau, p. 5; "Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785," Marriage Record]. His surname appears also as Gattineau, Gatino, and Gatineau ["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785"]. He was born 23 July 1666 Lusignan, Vienne, Poitou, France ["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785," Marriage Record; Budd, Ancestors of George (Sr.) Gastineau, p. 5].

He married Jeanne Chabousant, daughter of Jean Chaboussant and Catherine Bellet, 8 November 1692 La Patente, Spitalfields, London, England ["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785," Marriage Record; Budd, Ancestors of George (Sr.) Gastineau, p. 4].

He was admitted to the Weavers Company as a "foreign master" on five pounds fine, 15 July 1693 London, England ["Extracts from the Court Books of the Weavers Company of London, 1610-1730," Publications of the Huguenot Society of London (London: The Huguenot Society of London, 1931)]. He was listed as a Master weaver in 1694 London, England, and also in July 1712 ["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785"].

-------------------- 64. Mathurin7 Gastineau (Pierre, #128). Born 23 July 1666 Lusignan, Vienne, Poitou, France ["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785", Marriage Record; Budd, Ancestors of George (Sr.) Gastineau, p. 5]. He was apparently a Protestant and fled to England as a young man (along with thousands of other Huguenots) because he married Jeanne Chabousant (see #65), daughter of Jean Chaboussant and Catherine Bellet, 8 November 1692 La Patente, Spitalfields, London, England ["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785", Marriage Record; Budd, Ancestors of George (Sr.) Gastineau, p. 4]. Died between 17 November 1747 and 1 February 1749 Spitalfields, London, England [Budd, Ancestors of George (Sr.) Gastineau, p. 4].

Maturin also appears in the La Patente registers as Gatino, Gatineau, and Gattineau ["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785"].

He was admitted to the Weavers Company on 15 July 1693 as a "foreign master" on payment of a £5 fine and was employed as Master weaver in 1694 in London ["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785"].

He lived in December 1698 and in February 1700 at Little Pearl Street, Stepney, Middlesex, England. In July 1701, he is recorded at Win Court, Stepney, but in September 1702 he was back in Pearl Street. He is also there in January 1704, March 1709, July 1712, and February 1715["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785"].

In December 1707, London, he and his wife are described in a baptismal record as "refugees living in Spittlefields" or "living in refuge in Spittlefields" -- implying that both were born in France.

He was naturalized in 1709 in London ["Letters of Denization and Acts of Naturalization for Aliens in England & Ireland, 1701-1800," Publications of the Huguenot Society of London (London: Huguenot Society of London, 1923), Oath roll ("Skin") 5].

He is recorded as being a Master Weaver in July 1712 in London ["Registers of the Church Known as La Patente . . . 1689 to 1785"].

His will is dated 16 November 1747 London and was probated on 3 February 1749 London [Budd, Ancestors of George (Sr.) Gastineau, p. 4].
