About Matilda West (Scarborough)

In 1704 Mrs. Matilda West, widow, refused to take the usual oath, being a Quaker. She must have been considered a desirable convert, because both her father and husband had been staunch adherents of the Church of England .

Matilda received a patent for 500 acres north side of Pungoteague Creek. Matilda and her sister Tabitha had 3500 acres in 1658 before their marriages

She is on the Virginia 1704 Rent rolls in Accomack Co., VA with 3600 acres.

Her will was dated 6 Sept 1721 and proved 6 March 1722 (1). Her date of death was listed as 3 Jan 1721 (but 1722 is more reasonable) (2).
