He married first Anna Lubi, the banns were published at the Bergen REformed church, Nov 27, preceding, and hte ceremony was peformed before the Court of Bergen. His wife died at Bergen, Dec 20 1685, and he married sceond, CAtryna Paulus. The entry of this marriage from teh Bergen Churcn records reads:

Matheus Cornelisse van Niuwkerck wid of Anan Lubi born at Slcechtenhorst in Glderland and Catyna Paulus from bErgen, New Jersey, bothliving in Bergen married Auguast 15, at Bergen by the Voorleezer [Reinier] VAn Glesen, in the presence of hte Court at Bergen in the church, Banns having been publshed 5 July 1686.
