From Yonkers, The Herald Statesman, 17 May, 1946: Max Caesar Dies At 71 Max Caesar, retired restaurateur and father of Sid Caesar, motion picture comedian, died yesterday in the Yonkers General Hospital after a short illness. He was seventy-one years old and lived at 22 Hawthorne Avenue. Born in Austria, Mr. Caesar came to this country when he was eleven and lived in New York City where he operated several restaurants before coming to Yonkers about 25 years ago. Here Mr. Caesar first operated for four years the Star Lunch which occupied the Fashion Shop site on Main Street. From 1921 to 1935 he conducted the St. Clair Restaurant at 32 Main Street. Then for four years until he retired from active business in 1939, he was proprietor of the Main Lunch Bar on Main Street. Mr. Caesar was a member of the Agudas Achim Congregation. Son Files From Hollywood His son. whose talent was discovered while he was serving in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II, played the leading comic role in the stage and screen production of ' T a r s and Spars," Coast Guard review. He flew here last night from Hollywood, where he is working on his second picture. Mr. Caesar also leaves his wife, the former Ida Raffel, and two other sons, David Caesar, stationer at 12 Manor House Square, and Abraham Caesar, also of this city; one sister, Mrs. Anna Welt of Buffalo, and a brother, Joseph Caesar of New York.
