About Minnie R. Hayes (Robertson)

Find-A-Grave memorial #32813877.

Minnie and her husband Curt were first cousins once removed. As noted in Curt's Find-A-Grave memorial, he was the son of Amanda Ellen Deckard Hayes. Minnie was the granddaughter of John Henry Deckard, Amanda's brother.

The latter fact is documented by noting that (a) she is the daughter of Amanda Ellen Deckard Robertson (see Minnie's own Find-A-Grave documentation), and that (b) Amanda Ellen Deckard Robinson is the daughter of John Henry Deckard.

It is noted in the TEXT of Amanda Ellen Deckard Robinson's memorial that she is the daughter of John Henry Deckard. It isn't a link, so it need not show up (and doesn't) in John Henry Deckard's memorial.

It is somewhat confusing to be dealing with two women whose maiden names were both Amanda Ellen Deckard; nonetheless the situation did in fact happen. Amanda Ellen Deckard Robertson was named "Amanda Ellen" after her aunt Amanda Ellen Deckard Hays. The birth surname "Deckard" was bestowed upon Amanda Ellen Deckard Hays by her father, Hezekiah Deckard. It was bestowed on Amanda Ellen Deckard Robertson by his son John Henry.

The two women fortunately chose mates with different surnames so it is possible to distinguish them in some way besides giving their dates, but in order to avoid ambiguity it is necessary to use the full name. There is room for more confusion--but blessedly it doesn't happen here. (It turns out that Curt's father is none other than "Black Dave" Hayes, and when I saw THAT name I REALLY groaned.)

Why? Because there is ALSO a "Red Dave" Hayes, and the two men married women who were sisters. So we also have (somewhere else in the story of this family) two sisters, both of whom were married to "David Hayes"--and they didn't even take turns!. No, they weren't Mormons; it just sounds that way. But THAT is a different story.
