About Moses John Bowen

(1)MOSES BOWEN was born about 1650 allegedly in Wales and died shortly before May 20, 1761 in Augusta County, Virginia. He married Rebecca Rees.

(2)Moses was the son of Evan ab Owen, b. 1674 in Caemarthen, Wales, d. at age 86, in 1760, Montgomery Co., PA. When they first arrived in PA, they settled in Chester CO., PA. (From "Makers of America", Washington, DC, 1916, pp 491)

Although the majority of the people that he came with, were Quaker, it is thought that Moses was not, but Rebecca's name was found on some Meeting Rolls.

The Tazewell BOWENs are of Celtic blood. Their immediate ancestor was Moses BOWEN, a Welshman, who married Rebecca Rees. They came from Wales to America a good many years before the Revolution, and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Moses Bowen & Rebecca Rees (originally Rhys) came from Wales to Gwynedd township, Chester county, PA (near Philadelphia) in 1698 and purchased 10,000 acres.
