About Naomi Hamrick (Mollohan)

From the Webster Echo, November 1, 1917. Obituary of Naomi Mollohan Hamrick God has raised up in every age of the world's history people who have contributed by their in dustry and devotions to truth, to the civilization of the world and we should ever seek to perpetuate theirdeeds in history, that is may serve to inspire those who come after them to deeds of heroism and rectitude. These are the ties which bind us together into families and eve rlasting friendships. Death may separate our bodies for a time, but nothing can separate the love and devotion wehave for each other. The greatest compliment ever placed upon woman, was when the Master said to the woman of Bethany, '"She hath done what she could." Naomi Hamrick, (whose maiden name was Mollohan), was born in Braston County, November 9, 1838 . She lived a long and successful life, and it can be truthfully said of her. She did what she could in all goodworks. She married Benjamin Hamrick, January 1st, 1856. They settled in Webster County, in the early days where they made a home in the true sense of that word . Many weary travelers, and especially many a weary Preacher has found rest under this roo f and refreshments at her table, and was always welcome. Aunt Naomi, as she was called, was the mother of sixteen children, two ofwhom died in infanc y, nine sons and five daughters grew to man andwomanhood. After reaching about middle lif e a son and a daughter passedto the other side. Twelve; eight sons and four daughters are s tillliving and are numbered among our best citizens. They raised theirfamily on a farm some ten miles above Webster Springs, her husband beingan industrious farmer and his wife a splendid housekeeper, they were among our most successful farmers. After their large family had grown to man and womanhood and most of them gone out to make hom es of their own, they sold their farm and moved to Webster Springs, where they bought property and lived happily togetherfor a number of years. March 26, 1906 death called the husband and found him ready to go. Sister Hamrick was converted when young and joined the M. E. Church andspent her life a devo ted Christian and mother. She lived most of thetime after her husbands death with her son Eli, who was ever kind to look after her every want. Some weeks ago she went to stay a little while with her son George. She had been feeble for some years havingbeen a great worker all of her life her physical frame had worn out, buther faith in God grew stronger. After a life of seventy-eight years, eleven months and fourteen days,October 23, 1917, just as the day began to dawn death called for her and she fearlessly closed her eyes in sleep , and with out a struggle she passed to the beyond to meet with loved ones gone before. The funeral was conducted October 24, at the M. E. Church, by her pastor,Rev. S. C. Dodson, in the presence of a large congregation, after which her body was tenderly laid to rest by the side of her husband to await the resurrection of the just. Her life was crowded with goo dworks and she passed quietly into rest. Naomi leaves a large family of children and grandchildren and a host of friends to morn their loss. Of these two pioneers of Webster County it may be said; "Blessed are the dead which die to the Lord from henceforth yea saith the Spirit, they rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
